4 IN 10 DANISH CHILDREN ARE SUNBURNED ON HOLIDAY

Take good care of the small Danes in the sun

It is important to take extra good care of children in the sun because the cell divison in the skin's pigment cells is at it's highest when the skin is growing early in life. UV radiation can therefore be more harmful to the genetic material in the cells. The more harmful UV radiation children are exposed to early in life. The more likely it is that the damaged cells  develop into melanoma later in life.

Everyone should avoid too much sun

Even though childrens' skin is especially sensitive to the sun, grown-ups should be careful in the sun as well. UV radiation from the sun (and sunbeds) are responsible for 90 pct. of all cases of skin cancer and melanoma, and the more radiation you are exposed to - the higher the risk.

TRY OUR FREE UV-APP

Our UV-INDEKS app can be used everywhere in the world to provide you with a UV index forecast for your current position or for selected destinations that you add to your profile.

You can also see how the expected cloud cover will affect the UV index. You can set the app to either daily updates or alerts when the UV index is 3 or more - so you know when to help a Dane. The app language is English.

HOW TO HELP A DANE

Shade

Help a Dane by reminding him to seek shade as often as possible. Many Danes do not know that the sun can be twice as strong abroad as in Denmark.

Sun hat

Help a Dane by telling him that the most effective sun protection is a sun hat with a wide brim and clothing that covers upper arms and thighs.

Sunscreen

Help a Dane by offering him sunscreen. The sunscreen should be at least SPF 30 and must be applied in a thick layer.
